December 13 is a very important date in Poland. This year is the 40th anniversary of the introduction of martial law in my homeland. I remember that day very well. I was a high school student in Krakow. It was Sunday and at 9 o’clock there was always a regular program for children „Teleranek”. And since in those days there were 3 TV channels, the young people were waiting for something to watch TV . But on that memorable Sunday, Teleranka was not there. There was, however, General Wojciech Jaruzelski, who announced the decision on martial law in our country. Maybe someday I will write how I remember the next hours after this announcement … maybe on the 50th anniversary ..? who knows. Nevertheless, I remember everything very well, because this decision of the then authorities was quite traumatic for me.

But December 13 is also a very popular holiday, especially in Sweden and among Swedish immigrants around the world. This is Saint Lucy’s day. About legends (I know two) about St. Lucia, you will find a lot of information on the Internet. I will focus on what I did to celebrate this day. Namely, I baked Lussekatter (Lussebullar) – saffron, yeast buns rolled the way you can see in the photos. In the original recipe, the two dark dots should be dried cranberries or cherries, but I gave them raisins because I didn’t have cranberries and cherries.

Besides, I tried out a new idea – of course the Swedish horse as an appliqué. I decided to slightly modify some elements when I sew the quilt (because such a plan for the near future was born). Polish ponies a bit different, but … a horse is a horse and there is not much to analyze;) That’s all for today. Take care of yourself! Margaret
