Hello! Couple years ago I bought beautiful Christmas charm pack by Moda Fabrick. Obviously I couldn’t use them because … you know – this collection was so beautiful and sweet! They were only for touching and watching You are quilters so you know what I mean hahaha but some day I decided to use them because I planned my exposition in my lovely place in Theater in Rybnik. The opening exposition I planned in 11 Nov 2018 – it was a beautiful date because on November 11, one hundred years ago, in 1918, Poland regained its independence after years of captivity. Quilt is red and white and print is perfect for Christmas, we are looking forward to so much.
This quilt looks like this
Backing it’s beautiful flannel . I bought this in the US especially for this quilt. This quilt was supposed to be cozy and soft for me. Everything was just perfect! Unfortunately, when I was taking pictures of this quilt, my beloved cat Tusia just walked on this brand new quilt and … vomited…. It was literally a second. I cleaned this place and the quilt went to the exhibition.
Here are three of my Christmas quilts that I really like.
When the exhibition ended and my quilts returned home, I decided to wash the stain that remained on top. Of course, as usual, I put it in the washing machine. Unfortunately, I did not think that the flannel would have such a strong color that it would dye the top pink. I know, I know, you are about to say that I should steaming the fabrics before sewing. So… I never do that I believe that when I use fabrics from such reputable, professional companies, I don’t have to do it. Until now, and I have been sewing quilts for over 25 years, I have not had such a problem. But I also never used red flannel hahaha
After washing this quilt looked like this „sweet” pink
Oh how good it is that I have great friends all over the world ! Talking to a friend who lives in the US, I told her what happened to my quilt. She advised me to use a stain remover. In 2 weeks I got my package and I followed the instructions. The quilt wasn’t small, and I didn’t really know how much stain remover to use. I’ve only had one try at this point. They say the world belongs to the brave so…I used 3 packages
Perhaps it was enough to use one package. Perhaps if we had such large washing machines as in America, the stain remover would probably work more uniformly. Unfortunately, although my washing machine has a much larger capacity than standard washing machines in Europe, it turned out as it turned out and I stared at the washing machine the whole time while washing hahaha
Minute by minute, I watched the strong red color of the flannel fade
It was similar on top. Red began to fade from the squares.
Red is clearly faded now, even a little orange in places. Quilt looks at least several dozen years old.
There was little space in the washing machine – the flannel has large discolored stains but it doesn’t bother me at all.
Now the quilt looks like this and is my favorite Christmas quilt! Thank you Peggy for your help! I wouldn’t dare to do it without you <3 . I know – pink is never enough, but in this case I prefer the old red one
Finally, a fun fact: I used off white from Ikea for sashing and the background in the stars. It didn’t dye pink the first time. It also didn’t dye red from the flannel. However, the white background of the charm pack was discolored and dyed on very delicate red/orange. Life, however, is very interesting. Thank you for gaining new experiences. And I will repeat it again : the world belongs to the brave!
Thank you for visiting my blog. It will be nice when you leave a comment. Have a great day! Margaret
